Update

The Treasury Laws Amendment (2018 Measures No. 4) Bill 2018 secured passage today after it was referred back to the House of Representatives last December due to proposed amendments to other measures contained in the same bill.

This will mean that employers with 19 or fewer employees will have to report under STP rules from 1 July 2019. Businesses with 20 or more employees began reporting from 1 July 2018.

NOTE: Exemptions to STP reporting will also be available to businesses that have no internet or have an unreliable connection

How will Single Touch Payroll work?

What do I need to do?

If you want to take advantage of the STP features in ClockOn for reporting payroll information to the ATO, through Single Touch Payroll, you will need to contact ClockOn and sign up for our STP program. Once completed you will then be able to start submitting data to the ATO, allowing your employees to be able to see their YTD values on the MyGov website.

How will the process in ClockOn work?

If you have signed up for ClockOn’s Managed STP Service and our implementation team has assisted you in the setup, your payroll team will be able to easily report to the ATO through ClockOn’s STP Wizard. The steps involved will be:

  1. Approve and validate your timesheets – as normal
  2. Process your payroll in ClockOn – as normal
  3. Generate your employee’s payslips – as normal
  4. Export and upload the EFT files to your bank – as normal
  5. Run a Payroll Submission in the Single touch Payroll Wizard

How often will I need to Report?

You will be required to send your tax and super information on or before each payday. The ATO calls this a ‘pay event’. You are not required to change your current pay cycle and you can continue to pay your employees weekly, fortnightly or monthly. You can also have different pay cycles for different employees if that is required.

What do I do if I have made a change to an employee?

If changes are made to the employees YTD values that were submitted such as their payroll was rolled back and reprocessed differently or the YTD values were manually altered in the employee setup. The figures will be updated in the next pay cycle, once you have performed a payroll submission. These changes do not need to be updated each time a change is made.

Do I need to use ClockOn’s Managed STP Service for submissions?

No, you will still be able to use the ClockOn STP wizard at the end of payroll to generate the standardised files that can be manually uploaded to the ATO. Be aware that the ATO does not allow for the files required for Single Touch Payroll to be submitted directly to them, however, there are other gateway providers that do accept the standardised files that ClockOn can output. These providers will then submit the data on your behalf. Once the files have been generated from ClockOn the submission is then managed and maintained by yourself and your chosen gateway provider.

NOTE: The information sent and received to the ATO will not be captured in ClockOn.
