If you are using the Google Chrome extension on your PC - Click Here... to install - (Note: this is an extension for the Google Chrome web browser, and is released in the MIT License) Then you will be able to take a back up copy of your Authentication codes. This can be use full for a number of reasons:

  1. You can export and import to your authentication code on multiple computers (You can create an encryption password to help protect this)
  2. If you are getting a new computer you can transfer your codes to your new computer.


Creating a backup

  1. Click on the Extension icon, typically in the top right hand corner of your browse
  2. Click on the Cog when the Authenticator windows opens
  3. In the Setting window click on Export / Import
  4. Click On Download Backup File


  5. A Save As window will open for you to select the location of the authenticator.json file. 

  6. Select the location and Save this file.

You have now successfully backed up you Authentication codes


Restoring your settings. 

If this is on a new computer please ensure that you have already installed the extension - Click Here... to install


  1. Click on the Extension icon, typically in the top right hand corner of your browse
  2. Click on the Cog when the Authenticator windows opens
  3. In the Setting window click on Export / Import
  4. Click on Import Backup
  5. Then Select Import Backup File
  6. Select the authenticator.json file that you had exported and open this file. 

This will have now imported the backup copy of your 2FA file.
